Abstract

The use of True Shallot Seed (TSS) for onion bulb production has not been done in Indonesia. The availability of TSS as a healthy, high-yield onion seed is still very limited because not many produce TSS. The main problem in the production of TSS in Indonesia is the ability to bloom and produce seeds of onion varieties are still low, especially in the lowlands.Short-term goal: found flowering techniques and onion seed formation to produce TSS. Long-term goal: available onion cultivation technology using seed (TSS) as planting material. The target to be achieved is to obtain a package of production technology True Shallot Seed (seed biology) is effective and efficient onion,making it easier for people to mass-produce TSS.The experiment was conducted in the Experimental Garden of Agriculture Faculty Universitas Muhammadiyah Jember from March to June 2017. The design used was the factorial Split plot, with 3 replications, the main factor of using ZPT concentration with 3 levels, Z1 = GA3 50 ppm, Z2 = GA3 of 100 ppm, Z3 = GA3 of 150 ppm, and subplot is vernalization, consisting of 4 levels, V0: without vernalization, V1: vernalization 2 weeks, V2: vernalization 4 weeks, and V3: vernalization 6 weeks, as a second factor. Agronomic characters observed included plant height, number of leaves, number of seedlings, tuber diameter, and tuber weight. The result of research shows that the main factor influence is GA3 with various concentrations has not shown any significant effect on all morphological characteristics of shallot crop. While the influence of subplot is the time of vernalization of seedlings, showed a real effect in all morphological characteristics of onion plants observed. Further test results with LSD 0.05 showed that the cooling treatment of onion seeds was significantly different from the control, on all morphological haracteristics of the onion plants observed, whereas among cooling treatments (V1, V2, and V3),showed no significant difference in all observed characters.Effect of interaction between ZPT concentration and Seed cooling, has not shown any significant effect on all morphological characteristics of high plant onion plants,number of leaves, number of tillers, tuber diameter, and tuber weight.
