ABSTRACT Hairani, Cahaya. 2021. An Analysis of Students’ Difficulties in Online Learning English at grade XII MIPA in SMA Baitul Arqom Balung. Thesis, English Education Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Universitas Muhammadiyah Jember. Advisor: (1) Dr. Mochammad Hatip, M.Pd (2) Kristi Nuraini, M.Pd. Keyword: Online learning, Students’ difficulties, Teachers’ strategy. In the era of the covid-19 pandemic, students must do online learning with various advantages and disadvantages. There are often complaints from teachers, parents, and students about online learning problems. Therefore, this study focuses on the following issues: first, what are students’ difficulties in online learning English at grade XII MIPA in SMA Baitul Arqom Balung?. Second, what strategies are used by the English teachers to help students of grade XII MIPA in SMA Baitul Arqom Balung to solve their problems in online learning English? This research used a mixing method. First, conducting quantitative research with 36 students at grade XII MIPA in SMA Baitul Arqom Balung. Second, followed by conducting qualitative research with 2 English teachers in SMA Baitul Arqom Balung. Data were taken from questionnaires with students and interviews with English teachers as respondents. The results obtained in this study can be concluded that during the online learning process, students of class XII MIPA experienced several difficulties and there are several technical strategies that are used by English teachers to help students to solve student problems in online learning. For future researchers who will conduct similar research, the results of this study can be used as a reference. However, there are several weaknesses in this research.
