Abstract

Forensic linguistics is basically used as a study that describes the legal language and its problems from the perspective of linguistic rules, both pure and interdisciplinary. The purpose of this study is to describe variations in legal language in Indonesia which are classified based on the context of legal events verbally and textually, namely: the text of the law, the text of a notary deed, the interrogation process between the police and the suspect, and the trial process. The data in this study are in the form of language use that comes from legal practitioners as one of the professional groups, especially those in the Jember District Court. The source of the data is the use of the language of judges, prosecutors, legal advisers in the Jember District Court trial. The data collection technique used is the free-of-charge listening technique (non-participation observation) and the recording technique. The results of the analysis show that the variety of legal languages can be classified based on the legal context that is oral and textual. The spoken context refers to the use of language in the interrogation and trial process. Meanwhile, the textual context refers to the use of language in the text of the law and notarial deed.
