Thesis, English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Muhammadiyah Jember. Supervisor: (1) Widya Oktarini,SS,MA (2) Muhlisin Rasuki, MPd, MA, Ed. D. Keywords: vocabulary in class, obstacles in learning vocabulary strategies Communication is an important use of language as a tool to communicate with other people through language that can express ideas, opinions, and feelings. Vocabulary is not limited to the meaning of words but also includes how vocabulary in a language is structured how people store and store words and how they learn words and the relationships between words, phrases, categories of words and phrases. Qualitative research is one of research procedures that produce the descriptive data such as utterance or written text and people behaviour that are observed. The data used by the researcher was interview. Interview obtained from students answer regarding questions posts by researchers. Based on the answers from students interview, learning vocabulary was easy through songs because students can enjoy the rhyme and also the lyrics, because they could be easy to learn anywhere and anytime by themselves in pandemic outbreak, so the students could learn even if only at home. Students found some obstacles in learning vocabulary those were the media that the teacher used must be interactive and innovative. Another obstacle was the students faced during vocabulary learning the teacher only used texts assignments because it was old method and some students needed and upgraded in learning vocabulary such as using songs or watching videos. The researcher concluded that vocabulary took an important role in learning foreign languages, then was a factor determinants in developing language skills and vocabulary were the main capital in expressing ideas in the main both verbally written. In conclusion, the researcher found that in vocabulary learning some of students said that was easy through songs. The students also found some obstacles in vocabulary learning those were the media that the teacher used must be interactive and innovative, because of the students were hard to memorized and know the meanings of the familiar words in the songs.
