Abstract

Cephalgia or headache is one of the several human physical complaints. Pain management approach should be holistic and comprehensive. Nowadays, alternative medicine increasingly becomes popular to decrease the pain. Cupping as an alternative medicine is a traditional treatment that has a principle way by bloodletting in a certain area of human back to relief the pain. The design of this study is using a pre-experiment with a pretest-posttest design. The aim of the study was to analyze the effectiveness of cupping therapy to decrease pain in patients with cephalgia. The population was all cephalgia patients who received cupping therapy in the house of cupping Al-Kahiil Tegal Besar Jember. The samples were 32 respondents and collected by using quota sampling. It was conducted on April to June, 2012. The result showed that the pain scale mean before cupping therapy in patients with cephalgia was 5.8750 (moderate pain) and after cupping therapy was 1.7500 (mild pain). It is concluded that Cupping therapy was effective for pain reduction in patients with cephalgia with 0,00 ρ values using paired t test. It was recommended that all patients with cephalgia could be used cupping therapy to relief their headache. Keywords : Cephalgia, Pain, Cupping therapy
