Abstract

Writing skill is one of the most important aspects in learning English that students must master. However there are still many students find writing as one of the problems that they face when the want to learn English. Therefore, it is important to do research entitled “The Implementation of Concept Sentence Method to Improve Students’ Ability in Writing a Report Text.” In this research the problem is “how can the implementation of Concept Sentence Method improve students’ ability in writing a report text?” and the objective of this research referring to the research problem is to find out how the implementation of Concept Sentence Method can improve students’ Report text writing by Senior High School Students. Based on the research problem and the relevant theory, the hypothesis of this research is described as follows: Concept Sentence Method can improve students’ ability in writing a report text through small group discussion” The design of this research is classroom action research. The research subject is XI Language class consisting of 17 students. The data are collected using writing test, and the instrument used is test item items. In order to analyse the data-students’ writing score, mean formula is used. The implementation of Concept Sentence Method was combined with small group discussion. Students’ can share their ideas with their group so that they can be easier in writing sentences. Concept Sentence Method improved the students’ writing ability in two cycles from the class’s mean score ≥78 (77.23) in Cycle 1 to (80.41) in Cycle 2. Based on the research result, it can be concluded that Concept Sentence Method is able to improve the students’ writing ability at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Jember in the 2022-2023 academic year by using small group discussion.
