English Language Education Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Muhammadiyah Jember. Advisors: (1) Dr. Hanafi, M. Pd. (2) Indri Astutik, M. Pd. Key Word : Students’ Curiosity, Reading Comprehension, Inferential Comprehension Reading plays an essential role in the students’ English development. In reading, EFL students are expected to be able to comprehend about what they read. According to the definition of curiosity, someone with a high level of curiosity will study their surroundings more thoroughly than someone with a low level of curiosity. Therefore, this research with title “The Correlation Between Students’ Curiosity And Their Reading Comprehension Ability on News Item Texts” is need to be conducted to know it’s correlation. The problem of this research is “Is there any significant correlation between students’ curiosity and their reading comprehension ability on News Item texts?” and the objective of the research based on the problem is to find out whether there is any significant correlation between students’ curiosity and their reading comprehension ability on News item texts. Referring to the literature review, the formulated hypothesis that can be constructed is,” There is significant correlation between student’s reading curiousity and their reading comprehension ability on news item texts”. Quantitative correlational design is chosen for this research. This approach is used to determine whether students’ curiosity and their reading comprehension ability on news item texts are correlated. Using Pearson correlation product moment in SPSS program to analyze the data. The result of this research showed that there is significant correlation between students’ curiosity and their reading comprehension. The mean score of students’ curiosity is 63.29 and the mean score of students’ reading comprehension is 76.13. The value of the Pearson correlation or r-count is 0.567 higher than r-table 0.456. And the value of the sig (2-tailed) is 0.01 lower than 0.05. And this can be concluded that there is a positive correlation between students’ curiosity and their reading comprehension ability. Therefore, Ha was accepted and H0 is rejected. In summary, There is significant correlation between student’s reading curiousity and their reading comprehension ability on news item texts.
