Abstract

Key Word:Detailed Reading Strategy,Writing Ability In the teaching of English, there are four skills that should be mastered by the learners namely listening, speaking, reading and writing. Those four skills have become the main concern of English teaching method. The last two skills, reading and writing, they are considered as skills that can be gained by students’ learning English after they gain listening and speaking skill. The research question which has been proposed is “Is there any significant effect of using Detailed Reading Strategy to students’ writing ability of the tenth grade students’at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Jember?”. Based on the research problem and theory, the research hypothesis can be formulated as follows is there any significant effect of using Detailed Reading Strategy to students’ writing ability on the tenth grade students’ at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Jember in 2014/2015 academic years. The design of this research is Quasi Experimental design. The Quasi Experimental design that use post-test and pretest to get the data. because the school just give 6 time to do the research, so the design that appropriate is it. In this design the group of subjects is taken from 2 class that have same capability, then divided into two groups, they are the experimental and control group. The data are collected using subjective test. The instrument used is test item. In order to analyze the data of the research, t-test formula is used. The result of analysis showed tha the result from t-test formula was 1.151. After that, the degree of freedom (df) was calculated and the result of 46 was 2.0687 that was compared with t-table by using error significance 5 %. The result is clear that the result of t-test is less than t-table (1.151<2.0687). Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of using detailed reading strategy on students’ writing ability at the tenth grade of senior high school.
