Abstract
Speaking is providence skill in the oral mode. In this skill, the students do not only pronounce the words but they have to interact with other well. Communication through, speaking is commonly performed in face to face interaction. Grammar shows how words are combined or arranged sentences. It means, grammar is needed in making the right sentence. This research aim to analyzed the use of grammar in the students speaking.
The research question guiding this study was: How do the students use the grammar in their speaking? To answer this question, the researcher employed a qualitative descriptive method using an interview and oral test. Data were collected through a structured interview and oral test distributed to 25 twelve grade students of SMK Al-Furqon, Bondowoso in the 2024/2025 academic year.
The findings revealed that the most common difficulties experienced by students in speaking English were a lack of vocabulary, Arrange the sentence, and low confidence. Although, many students made some errors, most of them were still able to express their ideas in understandable manner.
In conclusion, students' grammatical competence in speaking is affected by their confidence, practice frequency, and awareness of grammar use. Those who actively practice and pay attention to grammar tend to perform better, while those who are passive or anxious tend to make more mistakes in speaking.
