Abstract

ABSTRACT Reading is the most important skill that the students must master what they study English. Many students in SMP Plus Al-Mubarok Kalisat found that reading comprehension as one of the problems because they have problems when they read English text. So, the researcher took reading and then tried to increase the students reading comprehension by a method called "Numbered Heads Together". In this research, the problem is "How can the implementation of numbered head together improve students' reading of narrative text the eight grade of SMP Plus Al-Mubarok Kalisat ?. Student's reading comprehension can be improved by using numbered heads together (NHT) at eight grades of SMP Plus Al-Mubarok Kalisat the 2018/2019 academic year. The design of this research is classroom action research. The research subject is eight class consisting of 23 students. The data are collected using test, the instrument used are test items and field notes. In order to analyze the data students reading score, percentage formula is used. For the first meeting was done on April 03th, 2019 and was done on April 10th, 2019. The reading comprehension test was conducted with the topic Stupid man. From the test result, 8 students got 65 and 2 students got 70, 80 only 2 students in reading comprehension ability. The calculation of Cycle 1.The first meeting was done on April 17th, 2019. The test was held on April 24th, 2019.The researcher gave the students reading comprehension test. Based on the test result, 16 students got 65 and 7 students got 70 in reading comprehension test. The calculation of Cycle 2. Those caused the result of second cycle achieved the criteria of success. NHT Technique improved the students reading comprehension in this cycle with the percentage of students 78% got scored 70. Based on the research result, it can be concluded that NHT Technique able to improve the students' reading comprehension at SMP Plus Al-Mubarok Kalisat in the 2018/2019 academic year by using small group discussion and did test multiple choice test individually, after discuss in the group.
