Abstract

Background: Hyperbilirubinemia or neonatal jaundice is one of the most fatal cases in neonates. Hyperbilirubinemia is one of the most common problems in neonates. Neonatal jaundice is a clinical condition in infants characterized by staining jaundice on the skin and sclera due to the accumulation of unconjugated bilirubin. Neonatal jaundice can result from excessive erythrocyte breakdown, impaired metabolis clearance, conjugate disorders, or excretion disorders. In Balung Hospital, Jember, approximately 240 newborns a year experience jaundice. Objective: The aim is to find out the description of newborns who suffer from hyperbilirubinemia at the Balung Regional Hospital in Jember Regency from January 2018 to December 2018. The method used is descriptive research. The research data was taken retrospectively (secondary) from medical record in 2018. The study population was all newborns in Balung Jember Hospital in 2018. Result: It was found that By.Ny.P was 6 days old on June 24, 2019 in the perinatology room at Balung Regional Hospital, with a diagnosis of hyperbilirubinemia. Based on the theory that the signs and symptoms of hyperbilirubinemia are yellow baby’s skin, yellow sclera. The estabilised diagnosis is neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. The invention that is carried out in neonatal hyperbilirubinemia is by taking the action of light therapy (phototerapy). Implementation is carried out for 2x24 hours by observing vital signs, observing baby’s skin color, observing baby’s fluids. Conclusion: After the light therapy (phototherapy) can be seen whether there is a change in the baby’s skin, blood bilirubin levels. If the baby’s skin is not yellow and bilirubin levels in the blood are within normal limits, light therapy (phototerapy) can be stopped. Keywords: Nursing care, Hyperbilirubinemia, Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia.
