Abstract

Key Word: Vocabulary Mastery, Composite Picture Vocabulary is the most important aspect the students have to be master when they are studying English. However, many students find vocabulary as one of the problems that they face when they want to learn English. Therefore, it is important to do a research entitled “Improving Students’ Vocabulary mastery by Using Composite Picture”. In this research, the problem is “ how can the use of Composite picture improve the first grade students’ vocabulary mastery of SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Wuluhan? and the objective of this research referring to the research problem is to find out how Composite picture can improve the first grade students’ vocabulary mastery of SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Wuluhan in the 2018/2019 academic year by identifying people, animal, and things or some objects from the picture. The design of this research is classroom action research. The research subject is VII class consisting of 21 students. The data are collected using test method, and the instrument used is test items. In order to analyze the data-students’ vocabulary score, precentage formula is used. The implementation of Composite picture was done in two cycles. All the students were active in teaching and learning activities, and they didn’t feel bored again because they can compete with each other. Those caused the result of cycle two achieved the criteria of success. Composite picture improved the students’ vocabulary mastery in two cycles from the precentage of students score ≥70 (E = 66%) in cycle 1 to (E = 76%) in cycle 2. Based on the research result, it can be concluded that Composite picture is able to improve the students’ vocabulary at first grade studebts of SMP Muhammadiyah 7 Wuluhan in the 2018/2019 academic year by identifying people, animal, things or some objects from the picture
