Abstract

Lupsul Jannah 2019. Improving Tenth Grade Students’ Speaking Ability through Inside-Outside Circle Technique at SMK Moch Sroedji Jember in the Academic Year 2018/2019. Thesis. English Education Program, Faculty of Teacher Tranning and Education, University of Muhammadiyah Jember. Advisors: (1) Anita Fatimatul Laeli, M.Pd (2) Nur Kamilah, M.Pd. Key words: Students’ Speaking, Inside-Outside Circle Technique Speaking is deemed to be the most important skill that must be mastered well in learning a new language. Speaking is an ability to orally express opinions, thoughts, facts and feelings to other people, animals and even to oneself. The problems of this research were: (1) How can the use of Inside-Outside Circle Technique improve tenth grade students’ Speaking ability at SMK Moch. Sroedji Jember in 2018/2019 academic year? (2) How can the use of Inside-Outside Circle Technique improve the tenth grade students’ active participation at SMK Moch. Sroedji Jember in 2018/2019 academic year? This research aimed: (1) to know whether Inside-Outside Circle Technique can improve the tenth grade students speaking ability at SMK Moch. Sroedji Jember in 2018/2019 academic year? (2) to know whether Inside-Outside Circle Technique can improve the tenth grade students active participation at SMK Moch. Sroedji Jember in 2018/2019 academic year? The design of this research is classroom action research. The research subject is X Office Administration class that consist of 20 students. The data are collected using the speaking test and observation checklist during the teaching learning process. In order to analyze the data students’ speaking score, percentage formula is used. Based on the research result, there was not improvement on students’ speaking test (55%) and active participation (52 %) in cycle 1. Then, the research was continued to the cycle 2 by revising the lesson plan and modifying the teaching and learning process. It got the results that where was improvement of students’ speaking test (80%) and active participation (78%) in cycle 2. Therefore, it could be concluded that Inside-Outside Circle Technique can improve the tenth grade students’ speaking ability and students’ active participation at SMK Moch. Sroedji Jember in 2018/2019 academic year.
