Abstract

Writing is the most difficult skill in learning English, because the ability to write is obtained from learning and practicing not by self-taught. In the learning process, teachers can teach their students with the media, learning media serves to facilitate students to easier understand the theory conveyed by the teacher. Therefore, comic strips contribute as a medium in the learning process. The problem of this research is “Is there a significant effect of using Comic Strips in writing achievement of the eighth class at MTs Wahid Hasyim Balung in the 2017/2018 academic years?”. Moreover, the objective of this research is to know whether there is an effect of using Comic Strips in writing ability of the eighth class at MTs Wahid Hasyim Balung in the 2017/2018 academic years. The design of this research is experimental research, the population of this research is the eighth grade students of MTs Wahid Hasyim Balung in the 2017/2018 academic year and the sample of this research is the class VIIIA as the Experimental group and VIIIB as the control group. The data collecting method is using essay test, and the result of data is anlyzed by using SPSS 2.1 (t-test formula). The result of this research shows that there is a significant difference in the students’ writing ability who are taught by using comic strips and those who are not. The significance of Mann Whitney test 0,000 < 0,05 level of significant. It means that the use of comic strips has significant effect on the students’ writing ability on the eight grade at MTs Wahid Hayim Balung in the 2017/2018 academic year.
