Abstract

Reading is important aspect the student have to master since the first time they start learning English. Through reading students can get much information and knowledge. However, many students find difficulties in reading comprehension when they learn English such as they difficult to comprehend the text, got difficulty in translating a word because they are lacked of vocabulary, they got bored in the class, and their participation was low. Therefore, it is important to do a research entitled “Enhancing Students’ Reading Comprehension Through Video of the Tenth Grade Student at SMAN 1 Asembagus in the 2017/2018. In this research, the problem is “How can the use of video improve reading comprehension of the tenth grade students at SMAN 1 Asembagus in the 2017/2018 academic year?” and the objective of this research problem referring to the research problem is to find out how the use of video can improve student’ reading skill. Based on the research problem and the relevant theory, the hypothesis of this research is described as follow: The use video can improve the tenth grade students’ reading comprehension of narrative text at SMAN 1 Asembagus in the 2017/2018 academic year by increasing students’ attention, so the can be motivated and interested to learn narrative text. The design of this research is class room action research. The research subject is X Mipa 4 class consisting of 35 students. The data are collected using test method and observation checklist. The result of the research shows that there is an improvement of reading comprehension. It can be seen from the result of the score, where in cycle 1 the percentage of students’ score ≥ 75 ( E = 51,4%) and in cycle 2 the percentage of students’ score ≥ 75 ( E = 82,85%). Based on the research result, it can be concluded that video is able to improve the students’ reading comprehension at SMAN 1 Asembagus in the 2017/2018 academic year by increasing students’ attention, so they can be motivated and interested to learn narrative text Key Word: Reading Comprehension, Video
