Abstract

Speaking is important aspect in learning language. Speaking in a second language or foreign language learners (ESL and EFL) has been consider as the most difficult skill to mastered by the students especially in Thailand. As the preliminary study of the students in Tarbiatulwatan Mulniti School, the researcher found that most of students unable to speak well, they think English is difficult and they tend to use Thai pattern when they speak English.Therefore, it is important to do a research entitle “Improving Fifth Grade Students’ Speaking Ability by Using Snakes And Ladders Game”. In this research, the problem “ how can Snakes and Ladders Game improve the fifth grade students’ speaking ability at Tarbiatulwatan Mulniti School Yala Thailand in the 2017/ 2018 academic year?” and the objective of this research referring to the research problem is to find out how the snakes and ladders game can improve students’ speaking ability. The design of this research is classroom action research. The research subject is Fifth class consisting of 24 students. The data collected by using speaking test, field note. In order to analyze the data students’ speaking score, mean scores and percentage formula is used. It was used two cycles which consisted of two meetings. The implementation of snakes and ladders game is played in group consisted two person. All students’ were more active in teaching and learning activities, and they more enjoy following the class. Those caused the result of cycle two achieved the criteria of success. Snakes and ladders game improved the students’ speaking ability in two cycle from the percentage of the students’ score ≥65 (E= 62.29%) in cycle 1 to (E= 75%). It is concluded that Snakes and Ladders Game can improve the Fifth grade students’ speaking ability at Tarbiatulwatan Mulniti School Yala Thailand in the 2017/ 2018 academic year by using group in pair and making a questioning and answering the question based on the teacher instruction and implementing the game as competitive game.
