Abstract
Traditionally the family type is divided into two, namely the nuclear family and the extended family (big family). In particular family type parents or in-laws asked the mother to hand over the baby to the care of traditional midwives. It is based on rights and responsibilities as head of the family. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of family type with involvement shaman baby in newborn care. The study design used is cross sectional with a population of 73 and the number of samples is 65 respondents obtained by using proportional sampling technique random sample. Data is collected using demographic data research instrument. The results of data analysis showed that the majority of respondents involve traditional midwives in newborn care, as many as 58 respondents (89.23%), and the rest did not involve traditional midwives, as many as seven respondents (10.77%). The results of statistical tests using Fisher's Exact test Test with α = 0:05 p value 0.003 obtained, so that it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between family type with the involvement of traditional midwives in newborn care. This study recommended for mothers with babies aged 0-1 months, should conduct newborn care independently with the support of family.
