Abstract

Coffee is a primary commodity in Sidomulyo Village, Silo District, Jember Regency, and plays an important role in the local economy. However, farmers face several challenges, including production fluctuations, pest attacks, limited market access, and low farmer regeneration, all of which affect productivity. This study aims to examine the implementation of farmer group empowerment and its impact on coffee productivity. A quantitative method was employed, with the research location purposively selected. A total of 86 farmers were sampled using the Slovin formula. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using descriptive analysis and an independent sample t-test. The results indicate that the implementation of farmer group empowerment falls within the responsive to highly responsive category. Farmer groups function as local institutions that enhance farmers’ capacity through extension services, training, collaboration, and improved access to production inputs and information. Nevertheless, several constraints remain, including low member participation, limited access to markets and capital, and external factors such as pests and climate change. The t-test results show a significance value of 0.461 (>0.10), indicating no significant difference in productivity between active and inactive farmer group members. This is influenced by low participation quality, limited adoption of innovations, the dominance of agroecosystem factors, and structural marketing issues. Therefore, farmer group empowerment has not yet produced a significant quantitative impact on productivity, although it provides qualitative benefits in strengthening farmers’ capacity.
