Abstract

The aim a this study is to find out whethere any significant effect of using YouTube on students’ listening ability at SMA Pahlawan Jember in the 2023/2024 academic year. The design of this research is experimental research. This research uses quantitative methods. The research subject is XI grade students of SMA Pahlawan Jember. They are divided into 2 classes, namely IPA class and IPS class. For data collecting used IPS class with 15 students in the class. The test are given through the XI grade English teacher and after that teacher gives it directly to the class leader to be given to their classmates. The data of this research was collected from observation and test. The results showed that from the class observation BBC Learning English YouTube Channel as authentic material is effective and helps the teacher to improve student listening skill. Besides, from the observation, the students’ gave a positive perception of the implementation of the BBC Learning English YouTube Channel. They argued that learning listening by using BBC Learning English YouTube Channel can motivate them to learn, they fell helped by the video shown to identify the topic of the material in the listening class and can improve their listening skill. Based on the research result, it can be concluded that students did not merely acquire the information from their hearing sense but they were helped by the picture.
