The advancement of digital technology has transformed various aspects of education, including the teaching of English. One of the essential skills in English language learning is reading, which requires comprehensive text understanding and critical thinking. However, many students still struggle with reading comprehension, particularly when conventional methods such as student worksheets (LKS) are used. Therefore, digital-based learning tools like the Read Theory application need to be evaluated for their effectiveness in supporting students’ reading skills.
This study aims to determine whether the use of the Read Theory application significantly improves the reading skills of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri Kalisat. The research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design involving two groups: an experimental group using Read Theory and a control group using conventional worksheets. Reading comprehension was measured through pre-tests and post-tests administered to both groups.
The findings show a significant difference in the learning outcomes between the experimental and control groups. The experimental group’s post-test average score increased from 65.18 to 80.54, while the control group improved only from 43.21 to 56.36. Statistical analysis using the Independent Sample T-Test showed a significance value below 0.05, indicating that the use of Read Theory had a statistically significant effect on students’ reading skills.
In conclusion, the Read Theory application is proven to be more effective than conventional methods in enhancing students’ reading comprehension. This suggests that integrating digital tools into the learning process can offer innovative solutions to improve educational outcomes, especially in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction.
