Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the role and contribution of livestock in the farming of animals kept in the household of the peasant farmers' income. The study used survey method with the respondent households are farmers who raise livestock in Pakem and District Ampel Tegal regency. The results showed the dominant farming system is based on net income is cattle farming, rice farming, horticultural farming. Average farm income is Rp 2.73 million in District Tegal Ampel and Rp.1.50.000 in Pakem, farming can contribute to farm income, each for 56 and 48%. This indicates that the level of livestock ownership 8 birds per farmer in the district of Tegal Ampel and 6 animals per farmer in Pakem the breeding business is no longer a sideline business is business branches. The role of livestock to the farm is a producer and producer of dairy manure. Livestock provide high added value to production and farming waste., Because the donated cattle dung for fertilizer plants and farm waste as basal feed to produce milk. Livestock serves as a source of labor 33 and 27%, as a source of revenue 30% and 367%, as the family savings of 17% and 20% as a source of fertilizer 7% and 6%, as the social status of 10% and 10% as well as the pleasure of 3% .
