Abstract
Flow attenuation downstream of the weir can be done with flat and bucket types of stilling basin. If the planned weir is more than 10 meters high and the river transports rock material, then the rock layer is strong enough to choose a bucket type stilling basin. One of the effectiveness of energy dissipation is determined by the value of the hydraulic jump length (Lj). In the bucket type still basin, the radius (R) greatly affects the length of the hydraulic jump. In planning the bucket type stilling basin according to the USBR standard, the Froude number (Fr) value is calculated first, from the USBR graph the minimum radius of the bucket (Rmin) can be calculated so that the water level downstream of the bucket (Tmin and TMax) is obtained. The Rmin graph developed by USBR is strongly influenced by the analytically calculated downstream speed without validation. The purpose of this study is to obtain the bucket radius (R) according to the downstream velocity value which is validated from the physical model test so that the jump length correction factor is obtained which is influenced by the bucket radius, then this value can be used as a reference in determining the length or area of the security area. downstream of the river so as not to be eroded by water when a flood occurs. Physical model test was carried out with flume length 4.1 m, flume width 0.15 m and flume height 0.24 m. Furthermore, 3 variations of the radius of the stilling basin were made, namely R1 = 6 cm, R2 = 7 cm and R3 = 8 cm and then flowed water with 27 experimental variations. Then the water level above the weir crest was measured (Hd), when jumping (y1), after jumping (y2) and the length of the hydraulic jump (Lj). After analyzing the relationship between variables, it was found that the water height when jumping (y1) and Froude number (Fr) are factors that affect the hydraulic length (Lj) in bucket type stilling basin. By modifying the Silvester equation (σ = 3.0 and = 1.17) the hydraulic jump length is close to the observed results with the relative error rate E = 25.8%, NSE = 0.9, MAE = 6.0 and RMSE = 3.1.
