Abstract

One of the key skills to master is writing. But even for native speakers, mastering the skill of writing is challenging. It is necessary to carry out the research titled "The Effect of Using Picture Word Inductive Model on Students' Writing Descriptive Paragraphs" since there are several issues that students in writing classes confront. The problem of this research is "Is there any significant difference in students’ writing ability between students who are taught by using Picture Word Inductive Model and students who are not taught by using Picture Word Inductive Model?" and the objective of the research based on the problem is to know whether there is a significant difference in students’ writing ability between students who are taught by using Picture Word Inductive Model and students who are not taught by using Picture Word Inductive Model. Referring to the literature review, the formulated hypothesis that can be constructed is, "There is significant difference in students’ writing ability between students who are taught by using Picture Word Inductive Model and students who are not taught by using Picture Word Inductive Model." For this study, a quantitative experimental design was employed specifically Quasi-experimental design with non-equivalent control group design was employed in this study. Up to 56 pupils in first grade at SMPN 01 Sumberbaru Jember are the subject of the study. The data are gathered through the writing test, and the SPSS Statistic 16 program's Analyze Compare Means-Independent T-Test is used to analyze them. The findings of this study indicated that there were differences in the mean test scores between students who were taught using the Picture Word Inductive Model and those who were not. According to the statistical analysis, the experimental group's mean post-test score was 79.57, whereas the control group's mean score was 60.14. The sig (2-tailed) value of 0.00 indicates that it is less than the alpha value of 0.05. As a result, H1 was approved but Ho was refused. In conclusion, the Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) has a significant effect upon the way junior high school students learn to compose descriptive paragraphs.
