Abstract

Jamal, Inas. 2024. The Effect of Grammarly on Students’ Writing Ability. Thesis. English Education Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Muhammadiyah Jember. Advisors : (1) Indri Astutik, M.Pd. (2) Kristi Nuraini, M.Pd. Keywords : Grammarly, Writing Ability, Students’ Writing Grammarly is the application that has the most accurate online grammar checker. Grammarly can evaluate and improve the grammar of written work, as well as correct any errors that may occur in the writing process. This study aims to investigate how significant Grammarly's impact is on students' writing abilities. This study employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. There are 48 senior high school students from one of the Islamic schools in Bondowoso, who are divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group. Students will be given writing tests at the beginning and end of the study. After the data collection process, the data will be analyzed using Mann Whitney U-Test with SPSS. This research shows that Grammarly gave postive impact on enhancing students' writing ability. The findings indicate that the Grammarly application offers various benefits, including grammar checking, which makes students' writing clearer and more comprehensible. This implies that incorporating Grammarly into writing classes is an effective strategy for students to develop their writing abilities.
