Abstract

Speaking ability is the students’ skill in expressing their ideas orally which is represented by the scores of speaking and the delivery of language through the mouth and the function is to speak. The aspects of students’ speaking ability are fluency, accuracy, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. Therefore, it is important to do a research entitled “Improving Eighth Grade” Students’ Speaking Ability through Story Games with Drawing” In this research, the problem is “How can the use of story games with drawing improve the eighth grade students’ speaking ability at MTs Hasanuddin Semboro in the 2018/2019 Academic Year?” and the objective of this research referring to the research problem is to find out how Story Games with Drawing Can Improve Students’ Speaking Ability. Based on the research problem and the relevant theory, the hypothesis of this research is described as follows: the use of story games using drawing can improve the eighth grade students’ speaking ability of MTs Hasanuddin Semboro in the 2018/2019 Academic Year. The design of this research is classroom action research. The research subject is VIII class consisting of 35 students. The data are collected method; the instrument used speaking test and observation checklist. In order to analyze the data of students speaking score using percentage. The implementation of story games with drawing in this research was combined with a pair work activity. All the students were active in teaching learning process and they didn’t feel bored anymore because they were enthusiastic in the classroom. Story games with drawing improved students means score in their speaking ability from 63.63 in cycle 1 to 72.94 in cycle 2 Based on the research result, it can be concluded that Story Games with Drawing can improve students’ speaking ability at MTs Hasanuddin Semboro in the 2018/2019 Academic Year by using pair work.
