Abstract

Speaking is one of the skills that everyone must master. Using movie as a media in teaching speaking can be a solution. The Researcher use short English movie is part of audio-visual aids that can help teachers in carrying out the teaching and learning process so as to encourage students' motivation to learn spoken English. It will also be more effective if it is implemented with the right learning strategy, Problem-based learning is a learning method that provides students with knowledge appropriate for problem solving

In this research the research problem formulated is 'Is there any significant effect of implementing Problem Based Learning using short English movie on students' speaking skills?".

The research design used in this study was quasi experimental with non - randomized pre - test and post - test control group design. The research subjects were students of XI A (32 students) and XI D (29 students) in MAN 2 Jember. The research instrument used speaking test. The data was collected through pre - test and post - test, and then analyzed the students' speaking score. The results of the post - test scores were analyzed using the Mann Whitney U Test and the results were <0.001 and less than 0.05. Based on the research result, it can be concluded that the implementation of Problem Based Learning using short Engliah movie has significant effect on high school students‘ speaking skills in MAN 2 Jember in 2024-2025 academic year.
