Abstract

Key words: Language Experience Approach, reading comprehension Reading is probably the most important skill for second language (L2) in academic context. The problems of this research were: (1) How can the use of Language Experience Approach improve Seventh Grade Students’ Reading Comprehension Achievement in descriptive text at MTS Zainul Bahar Wringin in the 2018/2019 Academic Year? (2) How can the use of Language Experience Approach improve Seventh Students’ Active Participation in descriptive text at MTS Zainul Bahar Wringin in the 2017/2018Academic Year? This research aimed: (1) to know whether Language Experience Approach can improve seventh Grade Students’ Reading Comprehension in descriptive text at the 2018/2019Academic Year?, (2)to know whether Language Experience Approach can improve the Seventh Grade Students’ Active Participation at MTS Zainul Bahar Wringin the 2018/2019Academic Year? The type of this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). This research was done in two cycles which consisted of planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting in each cycle. The subject of this research was the seventh grade students at MTS Zainul Bahar Wringin totaling 25 students. The research instruments used were reading test and observation checklist of the students’ active participation. Based on the research result, there was no improvement on students’ reading test (68%) and active participation (65%) in cycle 1. Then, the research was continued to the cycle 2 by revising the lesson plan and modifying the teaching and learning activity. It got the results that there was improvement of students’ reading test (88%) and active participation (75%) in cycle 2. Therefore, it could be concluded that Language Experience Approach can improve eight grade students’ reading comprehension achievement and students’ active participation in descriptive text at MTS Zainul Bahar in the 2018/2019 academic year.
