Abstract

The lathe process must produce good product with ideal geometry characteristic in a short time process. The surface raughness was one of deviation that was caused by cutting and machine proses. Thus, in planning and producing process must be considered the cutting machine parameter that would be used. This research was conducted to know the cutting parameters of feeding (f) and spindle speed on the surface raughness using Taguchi methode. This research used conventional machine lathe type SN-46-S-1000. Three different levels spindle speed and three different levels feeding with the constant depth of cut were used to collect the data. The surface raughness tester TR220 was used in collecting the surface raughness data, this process was done four times in different area and the result was averaged. Taguchi methode was used in this research to analyze the data. The analysis was used to determine the optimum roughness value by S/N ratio; it meant that smaller is the better and another parameters (spindle speed and feeding). Based on the research it can be concluded that the most influential parameters of the surface roughness was feeding. Besides, lathe parameters resulted optimal surface roughness; spindle speed (n) = 1200 rpm and feeding (f) = 0,15 mm/rev.
