Abstract

Reading skill is one of the productive skills that should be mastered in using a language. Teachers are supposed to be creative in developing their teaching method to create a good atmosphere, improve the student’s reading comprehension ability and make the English lesson more exciting, for example teaching by using game namely scramble game. The game is also able to optimize the students to think more creatively, to define, and to construct a new thing or structure so that it can increase knowledge and understanding because students are active in the game. The problem of the research “Is there any significant effect of using scramble game on students’ reading comprehension ability of the eight grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Mlandingan in the 2017/2018 academic year?”. This research used cluster random sampling as a technique to get sample. It means that the samples are not individual sample but group sample, namely experimental and control group. The kind of this research is an quantitative research. The research design is quasi-experimental design. The subject is VIII grade consisting of 50 students. The data are collected using objective test and the instrument is used multiple choice test. In order to analyze the data students’ reading comprehension ability score is used SPSS Statistics 21. The result of data analysis shows that the value of sig < 0,05, Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It means that the pair data value of sig. between the variable is significant. Based on the data, it proves that scramble game gives positive effect on students' reading comprehension ability. The conclusion that can be taken from this research is scramble game has significant effect for students’ reading comprehension ability. Keywords: Reading comprehension, scramble game.
