Social media such as WhatsApp is widely used by the public as a virtual
communication medium due to its practicality, efficiency, and wide reach. Many
institutions have utilized it for various purposes. For example, the Sekawan’s TB
Jember institution uses social media as a medium for consultation or assistance
between caregivers and tuberculosis patients in Jember Regency. The purpose of this study is to determine the role of social media, particularly WhatsApp, in the communication and consultation process between caregivers and TB patients. This study is based on the importance of effective communication in the success of TB patient treatment. This is a descriptive qualitative study using a case study approach. Data collection techniques include observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The research informants are grouped, with each counselor accompanying two patients. Data analysis involves data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results show that WhatsApp is the primary medium for consultation, monitoring, and motivating patients, compared to other platforms like Instagram, which only serves as a supplementary medium for counselors. Various WhatsApp features are used flexibly according to patient characteristics. It can be concluded that the WhatsApp social media platform plays a crucial role in supporting the success of the TB patient accompaniment program. Empathetic and adaptive digital communication can strengthen emotional closeness and patient motivation in undergoing treatment.
