Abstract

Body image is an individual's experience in the form of perception of weight and shape, and behavior that leads to an individual's evaluation of his physical appearance. Social interaction is a contact or reciprocal relationship or interstimulation and response between individuals, between groups or between individuals and groups. Young women in the process of socializing will display their physical appearance, individuals will try to show the best of themselves, one of which is through an ideal body shape in the hope of being accepted in their social environment. This study aims to determine the relationship between body image and the social interaction of adolescent girls at SMP Negeri 3 Bondowoso. This research method uses quantitative research methods with correlational research types and uses a cross sectional approach. The research population of teenage girls at SMP Negeri 3 Bondowoso was 202 which were taken by simple random sampling as many as 134. The data collection technique used a Likert scale questionnaire. The results of the bivariate analysis based on the Spearman Rho statistical test (p value 0.012) with a correlation coefficient value of 0.216 so it can be said that there is a relationship between body image and the social interaction of adolescent girls at SMP Negeri 3 Bondowoso. Recommendations for SMP Negeri 3 Bondowoso to conduct orientation to young women so that they can be alone with the aim of young women being able to communicate well with teachers and their peers.
