Abstract

Key word: Thinking Through Empowerment Question (TTEQ), Methods Demonstration, Critical Thinking Ability and MAN 3 Jember. Critical thinking skills students really need to be developed in education and in social life. Critical thinking skills can be developed or strengthened through the learning process. Critical thinking can help a lot of learning and provide opportunities argued, provide many opportunities for students to express their ideas and find knowledge, develop responsibility, self-reflection and political and social awareness, which aims to improve students' critical thinking skills. Interviews and observations by teachers of biology class X IPA 2 MAN 3 Jember known that the class X IPA 2 is still not maximized in learning biology and teachers also have never done appraiser critical thinking abilities. From the observations that have been made to obtain the results that the students' critical thinking skills are at levels not critical, so that researchers interested in implementing the empowerment of thinking through the questions (PBMP) with the demonstration methods to improve students' critical thinking on the subject of changes in the environment and recycling of waste. This type of research used in this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR). Which includes four stages: (1) Planning, (2) Implementation, (3) observation, and (4) Reflection. Implementation of the research is on April 25, 2015 through May 21, 2015 date in the class X IPA 2 MAN 3 Jember. Researchers used four methods of data collection among others, the interviews, observation, testing, and documentation. Based on the research results of the pre cycles prior to the application of the method of demonstration TTEQ of 2.2 rounded to 2 (Not Critical) after the application of the method of demonstration TTEQ average of 4.05 rounded to 4 (Less Critical) in the first cycle and increased in the second cycle becomes 6.14 rounded to 6 (Self-Critical). Based on the results obtained in this study that by using the application of the empowerment of thinking through the questions with the method of demonstration can improve thinking ability on the subject of changes in the environment and recycling of waste class X IPA 2 MAN 3 Jember in 2014-2015 Academic years. The results could be used as inputs or further research.
