Abstract

Speaking is how people put their ideas into language. Students today need to learn how to speak English fluently in order to be evaluated for language competency. Furthermore, psychological or cognitive issues are the most frequent reasons why students struggle with speaking English. In particular, students who have to speak in front of the class experience anxiety, shyness, lack of motivation, confidence issues, and a fear of making mistakes. These difficulties now significantly contribute to the poor speaking abilities of students. Therefore, considering the important role of speaking in one's language proficiency, it is important to conduct a research entitled "The Influence of Chain Story Technique on Student Speaking Skill in Eight Grade at SMPN 02 Ledokombo". Eight Grade at SMPN 02 Ledokombo. The research problem in this study “Is there any significant difference in student speaking between students who are taught with chain story technique and those who are taught with demostration technique?” and the objective of this research to investigate whether there is any significant difference in student speaking between of students who are taught with chain story technique and those who are taught with demostration technique of SMPN 02 Ledokombo. Based on the research problem and research objectives, the hypothesis in this study is as follows: There is a significant difference in student speaking between of students who are taught with chain story technique and those who are taught with demostration method of SMPN 02 Ledokombo. This study uses quantitative methods and pre-experimental research design (Static group comparison). The research subjects were grade 8 consisting of two classes with a total of 44 students. Data instruments collected using speaking tests. To analyze the data using SPPS, the results of the data tested such as validity test, reliability test, and t-test. Based on the mean score of the experimental class, which was 59.77 higher than that of the control class (50.91), the results indicated a difference between the two classes. The value is less than 0.05 in accordance with the predefined significance level, as indicated by the independent t-test result of 0.043. These findings suggest that the alternative hypothesis is accepted and the null hypothesis is rejected. Thus, it can be said that using the chain story technique to improve speaking skills is highly successful.
