Abstract

Background This study them is due to the use of learning models determine the success of the learning objectives are achieved by students, teachers choose teaching model must be adapted to the situation existing classes, the use of models of learning Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) and group discussions in improving learning outcomes, characteristics each different students in learning. There are two objectives were summarized research studies are: (1 ) determine whether there are differences in activity and student learning outcomes by using RME and discussion group , ( 2 ) determine the activities and learning outcomes by RME better than group discussions. This type of research used in this study is a quasi experimentalstudy . Researchers used three methods of data collection among others, the documentation, observation and tests. The instrument used was the observation sheet and test questions. Based on the research results obtained by the student activity RME better models than model group discussions. Where the percentage of liveliness using RME models are 76.83% and 72.22% ie group discussions. student learning outcomes using models RME better than group discussions. It can be seen from the average value with the model RME is 72.89 and discussion groups, namely 64.47. It is concluded that there are differences in activity and student learning outcomes using RME models and group discussions. Activities and student learning outcomes using RME models better than the discussion group.
