Abstract
Reading is one of the most important skills in English that should be improved. Reading comprehension is the way a reader understands a written text to get information. In this research the problem are: 1. How can the use of Marking Technique improve the students’ reading comprehension of SMAN Plus Sukowono Jember in the 2017/2018 academic year?”. 2. How can the use of Marking Technique improve the students’ active participation of SMAN Plus Sukowono Jember in the 2017/2018 academic year?” The purpose of this research is focus on using Marking Technique 1. To know how marking technique can improve the students’ reading comprehension at SMAN Plus Sukowono Jember in 2017/2018 academic year. 2. To know how marking technique can improve students active participation at SMAN Plus Sukowono Jember in 2017/2018 academic year. The hypotheses were the used of Marking Technique can improve the students’ reading comprehension, and students’ active participation at SMAN Plus Sukowono Jember in the 2017/2018 academic year. The design of the research was clasroom action research. The research subject were the X IPA 2 at SMAN Plus Sukowono Jember. The number of the tenth grade of IPA 2 students were 36. The result of reading test in cycle 1 showed that 28 students got ≥75, and the percentage score was 77.7%, and the result of students’ active participation in cycle 1 was 72.2% in the first meeting, and the percentage of the students who were active in the second meeting was 80.5%. It means the result of the research was achieved the target. The researcher conduct to continue in the cycle 2 to know the students consistency of this research in teaching reading comprehension by using marking technique .In the cycle 2 there were 30 students who got ≥75, and the percentage of students reading test was 83.3%, while the percentage of students’ active participation in cycle 2 was 80.5 % in the first meeting, and the percentage of the students who were active in the second meeting was 83.3%. It means that the target was achieved, and the students’ performance was consistence from cycle 1 to the cycle 2. Marking technique could improve the students reading test used interesting or familiar theme, underline, circle, label the text, and discussion in teaching and learning process. Based on the result, it can be concluded that Marking Technique could improve the tenth grade of IPA 2 students’ reading comprehension and could improve the tenth grade of IPA 2 students’ active participation in teaching and learning reading process at SMAN Plus Sukowono Jember in the 2017/2018 academic year.
