Debi Fitriah Putri. 2021. A Study on Online Learning Model of EFL Writing Classroom. Thesis, English Language Education Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Muhammadiyah Jember. Advisors: 1) Henri Fatkurochman, M.Hum. 2) Kristi Nuraini, M.Pd. Key words : Online Learning, Writing, Perception The new era presents new challenges and responsibilities for students and teacher. To reduce the spread of Covid-19, schools can not be done in a traditional way or face to face interaction. In this case, technology becomes the real core educational tool. Utilizing network and information technology for the developments of learning systems in school with online learning models is the way that can be used. It is needed to conduct this research to know how students’ perspectives on online learning and what are the challenge that faced by the teacher. The problems were (1) How are student’s perception on the used of online learning towards their writing skill? (2) What are the challenge that faced by teachers in teaching writing using online learning ?The design of this research used was descriptive qualitative research method. The subjects of this research were the eighth-grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Jember in 2019/2020 Academic Year and consisted of 21 students. The instrument used questionnaire, interview, observation, and documentation. The data used are primary data and secondary data. Primary data obtained from teachers and students in the form of questionnaires, interviews, and observations, while secondary data obtained from teachers in the form of documentation of student scores. During pandemic of Covid-19, the data collection activity was conducted through WhatsApp and Google meet media except for interview. Based on the Likert scale calculation, of the 21 respondents who were giving an answer to each item has a score above 63, according to the interval, the score is in the agree (A) and Strongly agree (SA) category, meaning that the average respondent agrees with the questions from this questionnaire. The result also reveal that the teacher faced several challenges and problem in using online learning model to teach writing and in providing help and feedback for the students. It can be concluded that students have a positive perception of the use of online learning in learning writing and teachers face 4 main challenges in teaching writing using online learning, namely teachers cannot supervise directly, students are bored, lack of originality, participation, and motivation.
