Abstract

Vocabulary is an essential one for students as their first step to go on studying English. Vocabulary is important because word carries the content of what we want to say. Therefore, it is important to do a research entitled “Improving the students’ vocabulary achievement and active participation by using scramble words”. In this research, the problem is “how the use scramble words improve the students vocabulary achievement and in seventh grade of the students at SMP Al-Hasan Panti in the 2015/2016 academic year?”and “how the use scramble words improve the students’ active participation in seventh grade students at SMP Al-Hasan Panti in the 2015/2016 academic year . The purpose of this research is to know how the use of Scramble Words can improve the students’ vocabulary achievement and students’ active participation in seventh grade students at SMP Al-Hasan Panti in the 2015/2016 Academic year. Based on the research problem and the related literature, the hypothesis of this research is described as follows: The implementation of scramble words can improve the students’ vocabulary achievement and active participation in seventh grade students at SMP Al-Hasan Panti in the 2015/2016 academic years The design of the research is classroom action research. The research subject is VII grade consist of 30 students. The data collected are using test item, interview and checklist. The implementation of Scramble Word was combined with small group and the teacher gives the students kinds of random words. Scramble words improved the students’ vocabulary achievement in 2 cycle from percentages of students score in cycle 1 ≥70 (60%) and in cycle 2 ≥70 (80%) and the students’ active participation in cycle 1 ≥75% (60%) in cycle 2 (83%). Based on the research result, it can be concluded that scramble words is able to improve the students’ vocabulary achievement and active participation in seventh grade of students at SMP Al-Hasan Panti in the 2015/2016 academic year.
