Abstract

Reading is important aspect in learning language. Reading in a second language or foreign language learners (ESL and EFL) has been consider as the most difficult skill to mastered by the students especially in Indonesia. As the Data from Analytical and Capacity Development Partnership (ACDP) of the students in Indonesia, the writer found that most of students have not mastered reading, they think English is difficult. Therefore, it is important to do a research entitle “The Effect of using Comic Strips on Students Reading Comprehension Achivement”. In this research, the problem “Is there any significant difference in reading comprehension between the students which uses comic strip and the students which not use comic strips on the eighth grade at SMPN 1 Wonosari in the 2018/ 2019 academic year?” and the objective of this research referring to the research problem is to find out how comic strips can increase students’ reading comprehension. The design of this research is experimental research, the design of this research was used quasy experimental with the pretest and posttest design. The research subject is Eighth class consisting of 23 students. The data was collected by using reading test. In order to analyze the data students’ reading score, mean scores is used. It was used two classes is experiment and control which consisted of two meetings. The implementation of comic strips is individually. All students’ were more motivated and active learner in teaching and learning activities, and they more enjoy following the class. Those caused the result of posttest in class experiment achieved the criteria of success. It can be showed from the result of Independent t-test, where the mean score of experimental class which was taught using comic strip is higher than the mean score of control class which as taught using module media. The result of Independent T-test is higher (79.35) on the significant level 0.05 with n=23 students. Itis concluded thatcomic strips can increase theeight grade students’ reading comprehension at SMPN 1 Wonosari in the 2018/ 2019 academic year. It suggest that comic strips is one of media was effective in teaching reading comprehension Improvement. Key words: Reading comprehension, Comic strips
