Abstract

English Speaking Skill is undeniable important in a communication. Many students are difficult to produce words correctly. Therefore, it is important to do a research entitled “Improving Student’s English-Speaking Skill Through Cartoon Film Discussion for Tenth Grade Students SMA MUHAMMADIYAH 3 Jember” In this research, the problem is “does cartoon film discussion can improve on students’ English-speaking skill at Tenth Grade Students of SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Jember in the 2018/2019 Academic Year?” and the objective of the research referring to the problem is to know the using of cartoon film discussion has a significant improvement on students’ English – Speaking Skill. Based on the research problem and the relevant theory, the hypothesis of this research is described as follows: Using cartoon film discussion can improve English – Speaking Skill at tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Jember in the 2018/2019 academic year. The design of this research is a classroom action research. The research subject is tenth grade consisting of 32 students in the class. The data are collected using test method, and the instrument used is test. In order to analyze the data students’ speaking score, percentage formula is used. The implementation of using cartoon film discussion. Students are really active; the circumstance of the class was so nice. The percentage scored on first test is 75%, which is equal with the minimum grade that researcher would like to achieve it. It can be classified as a success test, then there are some reasons why do they can pass the test. First one, they really like with a new technique that researcher brought on them. Second, they can learn something in fun activity. Third, they can share their idea to help each other through discussion activity. Furthermore, researcher still do for second test for getting a score comparison, while at that time the result is 81.25%. It seems students can increase their performance for second test. So, it can be said that researcher gets the same result or more even they conduct other tests.
