Abstract

Reading one of the skills that should be improved. Reading comprehension is the process of constructing meaning from text. But related to the condition and situation right now, there are some students who still unable to read comprehend a text. To face this common problem there must be some ways and solutions to improve the students’ reading comprehension through the available teaching method or strategy, in this case the researcher used Story Frame strategy to improve reading comprehension.” In this research the problems were “How can the use of Story Frame Strategy improve the tenth grade of IPS 1 students’ reading comprehension at MA Wahid Hasyim Balung in 2017/2018 Academic Year?” and “How can the use of Story Story Frame Strategy improve the tenth grade of IPS 1 students’ to be actively involved in English teaching learning process at MA Wahid Hasyim Balung in 2017/2018 Academic Year?”. The purpose of this research was to improve the tenth grade of IPS 1 Students’ Reading Comprehension by Using Story Frame Strategy Strategy at MA Wahid Hasyim Balung in 2017/2018 Academic Year. The design of this research was Classroom Action Research: which used reading test and observation checklist as the instruments of the research. The number of the tenth grade of IPS 1 students were 34. The result of reading test in cycle 1 showed that 20 students got score ≥ 75, and the percentage was 58.82% while the percentage of the observation checklist was 58.82% active students and 41.17% passive students. It means the result did not achieve the target. In cycle 2 there were 28 students who got score ≥ 75, then the percentage was 82.35% while the average result of the observation checklists was 82.49% active students and 17.64% passive students. It means the target was achieved. The action was stopped because requirement could achieved the target. Based on the result, it can be concluded that Story Frame Strategy could improve the tenth grade of IPS 1 students reading comprehension by organizing and remembering information of the text, true and false questions, and grouping. Then it also improved the tenth grade of IPS 1 students’ activeness by participating in teaching learning process using story frame in reading class at MA Wahid Hasyim Balung in 2017/2018 Academic Year.
