Abstract

HIV / AIDS not only attacks the physical which will gradually decrease, but also sufferers will face psychosocial problems, the existence of stigma and discrimination against PLWHA can worsen the condition of PLWHA. Psychosocial care is functioned to fulfill the needs of PLWHA related to their psychological and social aspects so that PLWHA have a quality of life until near death. Psychosocial care in PLWHA can reduce negative thoughts so that PLWHA is able to have positive coping on their illnesses.
The aim of the study was to explore the dynamics of psychosocial care in PLWHA. The case study approach is used for this purpose, with in-depth interviews and observation techniques as data collection. Researchers used three ODHA men with different characteristics of the transmission of the disease, with this expected to obtain a richer and deeper perspective. The focus of this research refers to aspects of the psychosocial care needs needed by PLWHA to overcome psychosocial problems.
The results of this study formulate that there are two needs that arise in
people living with HIV, those needs relate to the need for a sense of security to be accepted without discrimination despite their conditions as PLWHA and the need for social support in the form of information support, emotional support and appreciation support as a source of strength to survive in face the condition of the disease in order to stay motivated to do treatment.
