Abstract

ABSTRACT Yuda, Barata. 2024. The correlation between Indonesian EFL students' self-efficacy levels and their writing abilities. Thesis. English Education Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Muhammadiyah University of Jember. Advisors: (1) Muhlisin Rasuki, M.Pd., M.A., Ed.D (2) Henri Fatkurochman M.Hum Key Word: Self-Efficacy, Writing Abilities One of the key language skills that all students should be proficient in is writing. Students' ability to write well allows them to measure their language skills. However, writing in English seems difficult for many EFL learners. In order to write well, students need to be proficient in both linguistic and non-linguistic components. The non-linguistic component in this case is pupils' self-efficacy, or their belief in their own writing skills. Therefore, it is important to do research entitled “The correlation between Indonesian EFL students' writing Self-efficacy levels and students’ Writing Abilities”. In this research, the problem is “What is the extent of the correlation between Indonesian EFL students' writing self-efficacy levels and their descriptive writing ability?” so the objective of this study, which is related to the research problem, is to find out how Indonesian EFL students' performance on descriptive writing assignments relates to their measured levels of self-efficacy. The following is a description of the research hypothesis, which is based on the research problem and pertinent theory: Students' self-efficacy and their ability to write descriptive texts are positively correlated. Correlational research is the design of this research. Tenth grade of SMK Baitul Hikmah, which consists forty-one students, is the research subject. Tests and questionnaires are the instruments used in the data collection process. A correlational analysis is applied to examine the data from the students' self-efficacy questionnaire and students writing score. The analysis's conclusion indicated that r x y had a value of 0.640 and was higher than the r-table. It is discovered that the r-table has a value of 0.308 because of the r-table with N=41. As was previously seen, r x y has a higher value than r-table. It shown that there was a significant correlation between students' writing skills and their sense of self-efficacy. Based on the research results, it can be claimed that there was a significant correlation between the students' writing self-efficacy and the students' writing abilities of tenth grade students at SMK Baitul Hikmah in the academic year 2023–2024
