Abstract

Welding technology is one of the inseparably part in manufacturing process, because welding has an important role in every metals engineering. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of cooling media variation toward Stainless Steel AISI 304 hardness value of SMAW and GTAW welding result to the main metal, metal welding and HAZ. The welding used in this research was SMAW welding using E308-16 Ø 3,2mm electrode and GTAW welding using ER308L Ø 3,2 mm electrode to Stainless Steel AISI 304 material with single V hem welding connection 60° hem angle and cooling media variation used were coolant, SAE 40 oil, and air. From the research result, the most hardness value to welding metal was on GTAW welding with 130.6 HB cooling media variation and SMAW welding result to HAZ with 137.0 HB cooling media variation. The least hardness value to welding metal was on SMAW welding result with 121.6 HB air cooling media variation and GTAW welding result with 131.0 HB air cooling media variation on HAZ. Hardness value on the main metal SMAW and GTAW welding result with coolant, SAE 40 oil, and air cooling media variation had constant value, that was 118.7 HB.
